Stimulus Update: Who Is Eligible for Direct Payments?
In response to rising inflation, states all around the country are sending stimulus payments, but which groups receive checks varies by state. How to see if you are eligible?
Although the reasoning for recent state relief payments varies, they are always intended to assist residents in managing their living expenses, either through additional spending or the use of unused state funds. The purpose of the payments is to stimulate the economy, giving the word "stimulus" its meaning.
Eligibility varies state-by-state; some provide extensive relief payments, some advocate for more specialized payouts, while some are not providing any kind of compensation at all.
While some states use a more selective approach, like Florida with its payouts to low-income families, others, like Georgia, Massachusetts, and Virginia, offer tax rebates funded by budget surpluses or other means.
The relief check's overall value differs significantly from state to state as well. While states like Colorado give taxpayer rebates ranging from $750 to $1,500, states like Georgia offer rebates to taxpayers for as little as $250 and as much as $375.

This year, unlike in 2020 and 2021, there is no federal stimulus check scheduled, and there are no present plans for a second round.
